HV Engineering designed
the mechanical and plumbing systems in this three story
oil
company camp facility located six miles off Prudhoe Bay
on the Northslope of Alaska. This project was completed in the
Fall of 2000. Employees of HVE were also involved in
the commissioning of the project.
Design Challenges
The North Slope is a unique area for human habitation. The environmental
extremes of -60°F and 100mph winds create interesting challenges for the
HVAC systems as well. Design solutions include insulating and heat tracing the sewer
piping below the building, as well as housing refrigerator/freezer condensers
to keep these cooling items warm enough that the refrigeration cycle completes.
